Degree Comparison


A.      Type I (Positive)
1.       As Adjective/adverb as
2.       Equal/same position
3.       Comparing 1 man to 1 other man, 1 group to the other group
Example
a.       Shinta sama tingginya dengan santi
Shinta is as tall as Santi
b.      Shinta sama cantiknya dengan Santi
Shinta is as beautiful as Santi
c.       Class X A is as clean as class X.B

B.      Type II (Comparative)
1.       Adjective/adverb + er than (1/2syllable ex : tall, big, high,…..)
2.       More + Adjective/adverb + than (2/more syllable ex : beautiful, handsome….)
3.       Comparing 1 man to 1 other man, 1 group to the other group
Example
a.       Shinta lebih tinggi dari Santi
Shinta is taller than tiara
b.      Shinta lebih cantik dari Santi
Shinta is more beautiful than Santi
c.       Class X A is cleaner thans class X.B

C.      Type III (Most)
1.       The + Adjective/adverb + est (1/2syllable ex : tall, big, high,…..)
2.       The most + Adjective/adverb (2/more syllable ex : beautiful, handsome….)
3.       Comparing 1 man to group
Example :
a.       Shinta paling tinggi dikelasnya
Shinta is the tallest in her class
b.      Shinta tercantik dikelasnya
Shinta is the most beautiful in her class
